Absolutely everyone does it. You do it. Your mates do it, people you don’t like do it. And they’ve probably done it about you. Even celebs do it- Charlotte Church and Cheryl Cole hit the headlines doing it. Whether you’ve just caught them on a bad day, and they need to let off steam (at your expense) or they really are that pissed off with you. People talk, and if you’re not there while they talk about you, then it’s going to be behind your back. It can be seen as harmless fun, about someone you don’t know and will never hear: “have you seen what she’s got on??” or it could be downright evil shit stirring, either way it’s bitching. And as long as people can talk it’s going to be around.
