I found this really interesting, as I don't think I'd ever heard of him.
I find it strangely comforting to know that there have always been nutters and extreme sexual deviants. I suppose it implys that the modern day versions of the Marquis de Sade are not a product of modern society.
I enjoyed looking through the linked website too; I never knew where the term 'sadism' came from, and now I do!
